Conservative Vs. Liberal test
Well it looks like I am more of a Liberal than Conservative. I should note this is an American test and their definition of Liberal is different than ours. Anyways here are my Results:
The fact some of my friends are coming out to 70% conservative on an American test is somewhat worrying. On defence and crime, one of the questions was on the Iraq war so I find it hard to believe any Canadian would still score 100%. It is one thing to have supported the Iraq war initially, which I regretfully did, but to still support it is absolutely insane. I should also note I am quite conservative on economic issues, so I don't see how one can get above 50% without being conservative on some social issues, which I am not.
Your Political Profile: |
Overall: 40% Conservative, 60% Liberal |
Social Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal |
Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal |
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal |
Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal |
Defense and Crime: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal |

Nice to know that I'm insane ;)
Brandon - Do you still support it for the reasons that Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Bush do and do you see the war as a success. I sure don't. Anyways I agree with Hammering Joe that this would be different results if it was a Canadian test. For example, I support universal health care, which is a liberal idea in the US, but I also support a parallel private system which is a conservative idea in Canada. Anyways if you take out the fiscal issues, I am pretty Liberal, that seems to be the one area I am more in line with my conservative friends than Liberal ones but on the areas I seem to be more in line with my Liberal colleagues than Conservative colleagues. Since I am liberal on 4 out of the five while only conservative on one, I am in the right party then.
Interesting that you rank yourself by a purely American set of standards? You present yourself as someone who wouldn't.
Anonymous, this was an American test that some of my other friends were taking. If a Canadian version existed, I would use it, but I don't know of one.
Miles,
You are right, it would be great to see a poll more in touch with Canadian Politics. I was suprised by my own results. We aren't too far apart
Overall: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal.
Social: 50% v 50%
Personal: 25% v 75%
Fiscal: 100% v 0%
Ethics: 25% v 75%
Defense & Crime: 50% v 50%
What were you guessing. Although you are right it looks like we aren't too far apart. Considering we are both active in the BC Liberals this shouldn't be too surprising. Being a federal Liberal and BC Liberal you would kind of expect me to be where I am. If I was a BC Liberal and a federal Conservative I would probably be more conservative while if I was a federal Liberal and provincial NDPer, I would off course be more Liberal.
The definitions of liberal and conservative are no different no matter where you are. We just happen to have parties that use the same name.

I would disagree. Liberal vs. Conservative is very much relevant to the culture. For example supporting a universal health care system is liberal in the United States, but in Canada, pretty much every Canadian supports the concept. The question here would have been do you support maintaining a single payer public system or a parallel private system. Also the idea of having gay civil unions while preserving the traditional definition of marriage is a liberal idea in the US since most states don't even have civil unions for gays and lesbians while here in Canada this would be a conservative idea since we have gay marriage.
100% Liberal ethics?? I thought much higher of you, Miles. Does that mean you're funnelling money to Joe Volpe though children in your neighborhood? ;)

This is an American test, so I think the ethics component was something completely different. It was probably more on social issues or moral issues. If you click on the link you can see the questions yourself and you will notice none of them having anything to do with government accountability. Besides government accountability is not something that can be put as a left/right question.
Overall: 30% Conservative, 70% Liberal
Social Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
I'd be interested to see a Canadian version of this; some questions are universal, but others are too specific to American politics to really apply elsewhere.
I agree they should have a Canadian one. However, at least you can get an idea from this one. A good example of this is the health care question. Here in Canada pretty much everyone supports universal health care. The debate is whether we should allow a parallel private system similiar to what exists in many European countries and is beginning to develop in Quebec or should the government remain the sole payer of health care. Since the US is more conservative than Canada, mine would probably be 60% conservative 40% Liberal if in Canada. Although asides from fiscal issues, I am pretty much Liberal on all the other questions, which is why I joined the Liberal Party.
Man my scores whooped most of the posted score on this quiz, my lowest conservativer score was 75% all of the others were 100% with one 90%, me being a far far far right american Christian Conservative am disgusting my some of these hideous scores, i didnt look thru all of the posts but am i the only true Conservative who has posted, I really hope I am not
If anyone is reading this... would someone PLEASE e-mail me at kyrdyz@hotmail.com and just give me a few examples of what the difference is between the liberals and the conservatives in Canada. I've gone to both of their web pages... But the visions are.... well.. something that any human being would want. What are the REAL differences?
I consider myself a conservative. I was surprised by the test results:
Overall: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
WEIRD.
I wonder how scientific this test is?
