Its time to go Joe

It seems everytime you put Liberal leadership and the word scandal together, it always points to one candidate, which is none other than Joe Volpe. If the strategic counsel poll hasn't already shown Joe that he cannot win, I don't know what will. I hope when he makes his announcement on Monday he says two things

1. He is dropping out of the leadership race

2. He will not endorse anyone

If he was more concerned about the Liberal party of Canada than his own self-ego thats what he would do. Somehow I doubt it will happen, but I hope it does. Unlike Martha Hall-Findlay or Ken Dryden who would be a great boost to whoever they endorse, Joe Volpe will be a huge liability to who he endorses. I can just see the Tory attack ads going after the eventual Liberal leadership if that leader relied on Volpe's support. Hopefully that won't happen.

No, I don't plan on running. Anyways I have no problems with the other eight candidates staying on. I obviously wouldn't be too pleased if Bob Rae or Hedy Fry won, but at least they are not corrupt candidates.

If Joe Volpe had any compassion for his party - he would just drop out and NOT endorse any of the other candidates, but my guess he will endorse the one he resents to most.

He made his bed, no one else did. And, I don't want him to use the race card "because I'm Italian" I'm being picked on. That would make him look really stupid.

Fully agree. The race card is nonsense since no one went after Maurizio Bevilacqua in the same way who was also Italian. I suspect the reason has more to do with his sleaze than ethnicity. Quite frankly I would attack any candidate who behaved the way Volpe has no matter who they were.

but my guess he will endorse the one he resents to most.

I just hope whoever he does endorse loses more supporter to other candidates than they gain from Volpe. I am very proud to have endorsed Stephane Dion, but if Volpe endorses Dion, I will withdraw my support unless Dion distances himself from Volpe's behavior.

You don't seriously think Joe's going to go, do you? My bet is he'll use Monday's press coverage to bash a couple of rivals (Iggy and Dion, specifically) and declare all-out war, offering some fetid gravy about his rivals.
Joe's not the type to step away from a fight. He has the money, its just a matter of family -- he does put his family first and his wife's health has had its ups and downs lately)...

It looks like regretably you are right. Still he should go if he cared more about the party than his own self inflated ego. I may disagree with Bob Rae on some issues, but at least he is not a sleazeball or corrupt.

The last thing the party needs is another outright war. Carolyn Bennett was right to call for him to step down. I also think if the allegations are found to be true, the party should look at disqualifying him. Now to be fair to him, Tom Long in the Canadian Alliance leadership was involved in the same sleaze. The only difference here is is I wanted the Canadian Alliance to stay in opposition, whereas I want the Liberals to return to government.

I just think it's disgraceful to accept donations from ppl who are 6-7 years from voting eligibility and the bit about parachuting ppl into high positions w/in the party is not right either. Mind you, wasn't Bill Cunningham a parachute candidate?

Opinionater777 - It is not so much just the donations issue. Mistakes can happen, but it is the fact it seems scandal after scandal follows Volpe. One scandal, than can happen due to mistakes, but several, that is not acceptable.
