Ralph Goodale Won't Run

Unfortunately it appears that Ralph Goodale will not be seeking the Liberal leadership race. Although undecided as to who I will support, I am disappointed he is not entering. I believe that Western Canada is an area that the Liberals must do well in to one day form a majority government again and having someone like Ralph Goodale would have certainly helped here. He was also a very strong finance minister. I realize his French probably hindered him from running, but hopefully he will continue to help re-build the party including in his home province of Saskatchewan which is largely Conservative for now, but hopefully after swinging back and forth between the right and left, they will stop in the centre some day.

Politically smart Liberals don't run when their French is not up to par. First Anne and now Ralph.

Thank God Belinda had the good sense to sail into this wind.

As for Joe and Maurizio, well, need I say more...

The Fiberals will never choose a leader from Western Canada anyway. It would go against their neo-racist predisposition to label westerners as unworthy (see Paul Martin's refusal to disown comments from Buzz Hargrve that Albertan's values, "just don't sit well with Canadians).

Indeed no Fiberal has yet disowned that n.r. statement - proving that they must believe it.

Anonymous quite your complaining about Liberals hating all Western Canadians, that is a load of crap. Also the West also includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, but even Alberta is important too. There are many Liberals in Western Canada who support the Liberal vision. Your argument of Liberals hating Western Canada is an old Reform argument used to win seats in the West since most Westerners wouldn't buy into their extreme right wing agenda. I am a proud Canadian who believes in a united Canada from coast to coast.

Quit my complaining? I'm not complaining. Just noting Liberal racism.

For instance, you haven't said that Buzz Hargrove was wrong - just complained that I noticed.

Guess you don't like us uppity niggers much.

Anonymous I am from the West and my family is from Alberta. What Buzz Hargrove said was stupid, but Buzz Hargrove is not a Liberal only a left winger who urged strategic voting. The Liberals may have in the past had contempt for Alberta, but I would say most respect Alberta. One of them Gerard Kennedy even lived in Alberta at one point in his life.

Tolerating a region of the country should not be enough. Buzz Hargrove is clearly a supporter of the Liberal Party and as you would say, it's those extreme elements of the Liberal party you need to be afraid of. Repeating the tired "extreme right-wing agenda" blather time and time again does not make it true.

Buzz Hargrove actually voted NDP not Liberal. What he encouraged voters to do was vote strategically otherwise he is not a supporter of the Liberals but he hates the Conservatives so much that he wants people to go for whichever party will keep them out of power.

The extreme right wing being repeated over and over again may not make it true. In reality right wing and left wing are very subjective and mean different things to different people so what one considers very right wing another may consider centrists. The Liberals find many of the Conservatives extreme right wing, but that is from their perspective.
